This month I will try a new app for you, Sing bot – learn to sing
We will discover together its usefulness for our singing training, trying to identify its strengths and any critical issues.
Sing bot is catalogued in the “Vocal training and lessons” section in the Apple App Store.
“The idea is simple: if you can talk, you can sing” is Sing bot’s motto.
As usual, before I start downloading the app, I quickly check user ratings and reviews …
The rating stands at 3,4stars for a maximum of 5. At the same time, the average content of the reviews is unfortunately harmful, not so much for technical characteristics and/or functionality, but (and here we have perhaps the first discordant note) for one aspect purely economic …
Sing bot is a paid app in the form of a subscription. Monthly or yearly.
€ 12.99 per month or € 84.99 for the annual plan.
There is the possibility to try the app for free for three days, but always upon subscription for at least one month … a detail that is not specified before downloading.
Without a subscription, we cannot start any business.
The “discovery” is made only when the app is launched, effectively making Sing bot a fully paid application.
I decide to purchase a month’s subscription.
I specify that you can cancel the subscription anytime, but it will still charge the first month of the subscription.

I skip the registration
Since there is no obligation and, in any case, no possible advantage in the registration, I decide not to register.
At this point, a short questionnaire starts, proper to understand our singing level, preparatory to the type of exercises that will be proposed. I am then asked to indicate my vocal range (the options are minimal and non-specific) … High for women and low for men … no notes in detail.
Luckily I can set my actual vocal range in the settings menu just by singing it …
After completing the questionnaire and paying the subscription, I can finally use and test “Sing bot”.
Sing bot essentially consists of four macro sections.

Practice
The Learning section, as well as the Ella app, of which I invite you to read the review here, is in a “level game” style: to pass to the next level, we must necessarily finish the previous one.
Unlike Ella, however, the type of exercises goes beyond simply singing a scale or an interval … we are offered breathing exercises, vocal warm-up exercises, singing a song …
Very pleasant and spot on, in my view, the short introductory videos to the exercises, with explanations and suggestions such as, for example, the importance of posture and how to make it more balanced … a strength for Sing bot. In Warm Up, we find breathing exercises, intonation and vocal agility. For example, there are the classic Humming and Lip Roll.
Song Book presents us with some songs to sing, a few actually, but we can request a new song by clicking the dedicated button. The interaction mode is very interesting, a kind of karaoke with the indication of the notes for each word or syllable or phoneme and a real-time analyzer of the note sung and therefore of the intonation level. Too bad for the little choice of songs, but absolutely to try.
Practice is a catalogue of exercises divided by type (intervals, notes, ear training, scales, etc …) like the most typical ear training apps. I was surprised by the choice to create a “falsetto” section … menu dedicated to the training of our beloved falsetto, with the phoneme “shoo”.
Finally, we have the “Profile” menu, where we can make changes to the app settings (such as the vocal range of use). I found the overview of how long we practised, on which days and even how many notes we sang usefully. We also can enable a daily reminder that will remind even forgetful people like myself that the time has come to train and … sing !!!
In summary, I found the application very interesting and well-structured.
The cost seems excessive if we compare Sing bot with an app like Sight Singing Pro and its € 32.99 (almost a third less) annual subscription; well, there isn’t a comparison…
Among the cons, I point out that at the moment, there is no version for Android; we find Sing bot only for the iOS platform Sing bot remains, in my opinion, an app to try, even if only for a month of use.
