Quando è incominciata la ricerca sul growl

O

ramai di questo stile si conosce abbastanza, ma quando è incominciata questa ricerca? Oggi dal mondo del web ho scovato un bellissimo articolo pubblicato da Ken-Ichi Sakakibara, Leonardo Fuks, Hiroshi Imagawa, Niro Tayama presentato all’International Symposium on Musical Acoustics nel lontano 2004.
Partendo dalla lettura dell’articolo, l’interesse per questo tipo di canto ebbe inizio secondo le loro citazioni grazie alla pubblicazione nel 1996 dei tre CD Les voix du Monde. Questa fantastica risorsa che ho già postato precedentemente al seguente link, ha permesso di aprire una porta alla ricerca delineando i primi passi per la comprensione di questo stile.

Abstract Growl Voice in Ethnic and Pop Styles 

Among the so-called extended vocal techniques, vocal growl is a rather common effect in some ethnic (e.g. the Xhosa people in South Africa) and pop styles (e.g. Jazz, Louis Armstrong-type) of music. Growl usually consists of simultaneous vibrations of the vocal folds and supraglottal structures of the larynx, either in harmonic or subharmonic co-oscillation.
This paper examines the mechanism using videofluoroscopy and high-speed imaging, and its acoustical characteristics by spectral analysis and model simulation. In this style, the larynx position is usually high and aryepiglottic folds vibrate. The aryepiglottic constriction is associated to a unique shape of the vocal tract, including the larynx tube, and characterizes.
