Kayan women: a journey into tradition in a world of transformation
Kayan women, known as the "giraffe women", are part of the Kayan Lahwi tribe, one of the numerous Karen tribes that live between Burma ( Myanmar ) and Thailand. The custom of wearing brass necklaces around the neck, which causes physical deformation, has always aroused the interest of western tourists. However, their cultural heritage goes well beyond the external aspect and is rooted in music and singing, which constitute fundamental elements of their identity.
