When did my research started?
Dear diary,
A few months have passed since I wrote you. Several things have happened in the meantime, some beautiful, others less, who have completely revolutionized our life. I inform you that apparently the crime has been made! I became speech therapist! It was not the ceremony I have always dreamed of, I had no relatives and friends around me, but the emotion was still strong. Above all because I closed a chapter of my life and opened another. Even if we already know the ending of the story, it does not mean that I don't want to tell you about the path that led me to this goal. We had remained to the desire to discover something more on the voice together with my dear friend and master Albert.
We have studied and renovated the how, the where, and with whom to go and seek the effectiveness of this intuition. And the first real obstacle encountered is something that I have always lived as an observer, but never firsthand.
Because yes, making art and doing science certainly have many points in common, but while in the first the creativity, emotion and message have the upper hand, in the second the method prevails, the rigidity of the protocol and the construction of an objectivity that it cannot be separated. This for me was the biggest step to do, and I admit that at first he destabilized me a lot. Fortunately, I surrounded myself with people who managed and made me discover the artistic and creative value of science. Because behind those numbers so cold and empty of meaning, it simply hid a different language but which still led to a single purpose. Try to understand the voice. Our voice. I learned in this research the privilege of looking for the beauty that is hiding behind it. Because yes, I consider myself privileged in being able to go into this dark forest which is knowledge, in an attempt to seek even a minimum glow that allows me to find the way. This journey for me was this. A privilege full of obstacles.
Thanks to Prof. Fussi who put us in touch with Valentina Cortesi , we found a house in the Mousikè center where you can build our research. And always thanks to Valentina we managed to find a dozen professional singers who have a closed box accepted to get involved and give free hours of their day for free for what reason. I will never stop thanking them for this, and I like to think that it is a gift of the song that unites. From here, day after day, singer after singer, we made strange movements and pay attention to absurd things to these professionals, taking up from two cameras and recording every single variation of the voice. Finally what was alone in our head was taking shape. We did not know what would bring, but in any case we were aware that it would be a success, because everyone in those days we learned something, and even if the research had given negative results, it would still have been the discovery of something. Now I go, in a few weeks I will tell you how this story ended.
