Today we talk about Muqam, a way of building melodic phrases to compose or improvise.

The Muqam is a musical genre deeply rooted in the culture of the Uiguri, a Turkophone ethnic group that lives the autonomous region of Xinjiang , in the People's Republic of China. This musical style is not only an art form, but also represents a rich and complex cultural heritage, which reflects the traditions, experiences and stories of a people. Since 2005, it has been recognized by UNESCO as an oral and immaterial heritage of humanity, underlining its importance not only for Uiguri, but for the whole of humanity.
